A network composed of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Cape Fear Hospital, and Lower Caper Fear Hospice that is a CoC approved teaching institution, offers an excellent opportunity for an individual to work fulltime in the Cancer Registry Department of the Zimmer Cancer Center. Located in Wilmington, North Carolina, is one of the region’s major centers for oncological care in the Southeast. The Medical Center has major residency programs in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Primary Care.

We have an active registry since 1989 with over 2200 cases accessioned annually, and at least 6600 cases in followup. The successful candidate must possess an associate degree in a health care related field and three years experience working in a cancer registry, preferably in an accredited American College of Surgeons program. The ideal candidate must be certified (CTR), will consider RHIT, RHIA, LPN, RN who is CTR eligible with strong written and oral communication skills, strong background in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and computer science. Additional qualities we are looking for are being accurate with statistics, detail-oriented, and able to work well under pressure. Job responsibilities will include casefinding, abstracting, ICD-0 coding, SEER and AJCC TNM staging, and treatment and followup activities. Participation will also be required in cancer research projects, performance improvement, and patient care evaluation studies.
